Sheamus entrou numa guerra de palavras com o seu conterrâneo e lutador em ascensão no UFC, Connor McGregor. A guerra começou depois de McGregor ter estado num show de TV irlandês e ser questionado sobre Sheamus. McGregor disse que “arrebentaria” Sheamus numa luta. Eis as trocas de palavras:
